Having grossed $96 million domestically, $300 million globally, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of the best films of the year hands down – check out our review. While the box office numbers, and critical reception is one thing, a film can also be defined by internet memes. One particular meme has gone viral, and this is something that no one could have ever seen coming.

Spoilers follow after the jump.

One of the major revelations that are made in Captain America: The Winter Soldier is that H.Y.D.R.A. has infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., the very organization created to protect America from threats on Earth or from afar. We learn this when United States Senator Stern (Gary Shandling) whispers “Hail Hydra” into Agent Jasper Sitwell’s (Maximiliano Hernández) ear, to which Sitwell reciprocates with a chilling nod.

These two words being whispered have inspired the internet to create the newest viral sensation. Some of you may have even already seen it flooding your Facebook and Twitter pages. These memes are traveling faster throughout the internet thanks in part to the hashtag #hailhydra. Check out our ten favorite Captain America: The Winter Soldier “Hail Hydra” memes.
