Detroit Will Unveil 10-Foot Robocop Statue On “Robocop Day”

Dead or alive, you’re getting a RoboCop statue. That’s right, the people of Detroit will be getting their very own Robocop, and it will be unveiled tomorrow, which also happens to concide with the release of the DVD/Blu-ray of Jose Padilha‘s reboot.

This has been a day almost every RoboCop fans have been waiting for. While the idea building a Robocop Statue was shot down by then-mayor David Bing, fans have been collecting the necessary funds to make this day happen. And with the help of Imagination Station Detroit, they now have a statue ready to unveil to the people of Detroit. Hit the jump to check out the full schedule of events.

The schedule comes to us courtesy of MLive, as you can see practically the whole day is dedicated to the pop culture icon. Everything from a police arrival and presentation, as well as a statue announcement and fan meet-and-greet. RoboCop will even throw the ceremonial first pitch. Let’s just hope he doesn’t end up looking like he can’t throw like 50 Cent. The statue itself stands at 10 feet tall even.

2:00 PM: RoboCop and Detroit Police Department arrivals
12:10 PM: RoboCop presentation and statue announcement
12:30 PM: 1:00 p.m. – Fan photo opportunities with RoboCop
1:00 PM: RoboCop and Detroit Police Department departure to protect the City of Detroit
7:00 PM: RoboCop throws out the first pitch at Comerica Park

While the statue was originally made in the image of the Paul Verhoeven film, Sony will stop at nothing to promote the 2014 reboot that tanked at the box office. Hey, might as well do it while the reboot is still relevant right.
