Robin Williams was found dead in his hometown of Tiburon, CA, of an apparent suicide. He was 63. According to a press release written by the Marin County Police Department, the actor was found unconscious and not breathing in his home, and was later pronounced dead at 12 p.m. today. It has yet to confirm whether or not this was indeed suicide. Sources say that Williams has been fighting severe depression.
Williams rose to fame with a short gig on Happy Days as Mork the Alien, who then appeared on his on spinoff show Mork And Mindy. While the actor eventually made the leap from TV to film, he is best known for his comedic roles in Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, and Jumanji. Williams was also known for his darker and more dramatic roles in The Fisher King, Good Will Hunting, and The Dead Poets Society. He was most recently seen in CBS’ The Crazy Ones, which got cancelled after one season.
Here is what Susan Schneider, the actor’s wife, released the following statement to the New York Times (via The Huffington Post):
“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one if its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin’s death but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
