“The Social Network” Kicks Off Award Season With Three Wins Dan Koelsch, December 3, 2010 There a time in which The Social Network, David Fincher’s drama about Mark Zuckerberg’s creation of Facebook, was a joke. However, since it’s release, the film has generated a lot of buzz, including amonst critics. Thus, it isn’t too surprising that the Sony Pictures film did so well at this year’s National Board of Review Awards, which is the first major award ceremony for the 2010 award season. The Social Network took what might be considered the top three honors, winning Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor (for Jesse Eisenberg’s portayal of Zuckerberg). Could this be a predictor of the film’s potential at The Academy Awards? There are a lot more awards before Oscar, but the NBR results hold some considerable weight. What do you think? I do indeed believe that, “The Social Network” does deserve awards for its all around performance. The acting was fantastic and the story was perfect. This film should in fact win the best picture of the year. On top of that, Jesse Eisenberg should also win best actor for his performance. He portrayed Mark Zuckerberg perfectly. Overall, this film was all around great.
The writing and story structure was excellent. I do agree that Eisenberg performed well, but he is very much a similar character in every movie as the gittery, fast talker.
