The Buzz: Man of Steel, Star Trek Into Darkness, Awards, and More! Dan Koelsch, December 15, 2012December 16, 2012 The Buzz is a feature in which we round up the Top 3 most-buzzed-about movie/TV stories of the week (in more-or-less chronological order). Why go through pages of blogs just to find out what everyone is talking about? We’ve got it all right here in The Buzz. 1) “Man of Steel” and “Justice League” NewsOnce again, Man of Steel and Justice League are the talk of the town. The awesome first full length trailer for Man of Steel got everyone talking to start off the week, but of course rumors get people talking even more. Rumors have been swirling for weeks that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (returning from The Dark Knight Rises) could not only play Batman in Justice League, but that he might have a cameo in Man of Steel. Man of Steel producer and The Dark Knight trilogy overlord Christopher Nolan was asked about this rumor a few days ago, and he simply said “I can’t talk about that. You know that.” That non-denial has fans speculating even more. What do you think?2) “Star Trek Into Darkness” Villain Identified Paramount released a new film still this week for Star Trek Into Darkness, which depicts Benedict Cumberbatch’s character in a holding cell (presumably on the Enterprise), with Spock and Captain Kirk looking at him from the outside. The photo lists Cumberbatch’s character as John Harrison, which is surprisingly a name completely new to Star Trek canon. Could this be a red herring to keep fans from finding out the villain’s closely-guarded identity? This could be a fake name used by the character in the film only for it to be revealed he is someone more noteworthy to Trekkies like Khan or Gary Mitchell. Director J.J. Abrams loves secrets, so don’t expect to find anything out for quite some time.3) Awards Nominees AnnouncedThis is the time of year when we start seeing nominations for many awards ceremonies, and the biggest one so far is the Golden Globes. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln leads the way with seven nominations, while Argo and Django: Unchained both received five. The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air on January 13th. The nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards were also announced. The results of the AFI Awards were a bit surprising, as The Dark Knight Rises made it onto the list of the ten best films of the year, but more obvious choices like The Master did not.
