Oscilloscope Releases Portions Of “It’s A Disaster” On Vine Michael Lee, February 20, 2013February 20, 2013 Vine is the brand new social media platform that allows its users to create 6-second videos and spread it across the web. Think of it as the video version of Twitter. This new form of social media fun uses it’s 6-second videos to differentiate itself from the other social media platforms that might use status updates, 140 characters, or camera filters to get their message across to their viewers. Now Oscilloscope has caught on to the craze and has already used the social media platform and integrated it into their marketing plan for the new comedy It’s A Disaster. Hit the jump to find out how. In a bold new move, Oscilloscope has released not one, not two, not even a dozen, there are about over two dozen different vines that can be seen on twitter account. Remember each vine video contains up to 6 seconds of footage, and considering that there are 24 vines, that’s a lot of footage. Six seconds may not sound like a lot of time at first, but if you watch sports, then you know it’s plenty of time to execute a strategy.#itsadisaster http://t.co/eo86ubBR— Oscilloscope Laboratories (@OscopeLabs) February 19, 2013 #itsadisaster http://t.co/HYLQIAmX— Oscilloscope Laboratories (@OscopeLabs) February 19, 2013 But this isn’t just video content that is being released. What makes this so unique and different from an official clip is that these clips have all been recorded on a smart phone. You can hear people include their commentary on the film.Although the app was released a couple of weeks ago, Oscilloscope quickly saw the potential it had to market It’s A Disaster to a much wider audience. Here’s a quote from the press release:Oscilloscope’s Minister of Informative Updates, Bruce Farnsworth, said about the venture, “From the moment it launched just three short weeks ago, it was so clear to us that six-second loops of video, edited in-phone, and posted in real time was and will be the future of film distribution. While we still endeavor to release films via some other methods, we didn’t want to be left out in the cold and we are proud to be an early adopter of tomorrow, early.”It’s still not clear not much content will be released, Oscilloscope says they will stop sending out vines posted on twitter. But there is a chance in the new future. It is a very interesting marketing strategy to say the least. Using a brand new social media platform –one that just debuted in January of this year no less – is a risk, but given that it has been a hit since it debuted, give credit to the Oscilloscope marketing team for jumping at the chance to use a brand new social media platform to market its film.
