First Trailer For “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” Plans To Build Better Worlds With Fear [Updated] Michael Lee, October 24, 2013October 24, 2013 Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film takes place two years after the events of The Avengers, and finds Capt. Steven Rogers aka Captain American (Chris Evans) struggling to adapt to modern society, and entangled in mystery that may endanger the globe. We’ve already seen some of the footage that was shown at the D23 Expo, and had a chance to interview the cast and crew at Comic-Con earlier this year. But the best thing about this highly anticipated sequel is that we get to see Robert Redford in a Marvel film. It’s an very unexpected casting, but one that I’m sure everyone is excited to see.Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier also stars Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp and Cobie Smulders,.Update: We’ve also added the domestic trailer. Hit the jump to see them both. The film is the third entry in Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Based on what we have seen so far, the film will thematically follow Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World in terms of being an unconventional superhero film. Iron Man 3 was more of a crime/mystery actioner that reminded us of films like Lethal Weapon, while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has promised fans that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be more like a political thriller. One thing is for sure, Captain America’s morals and views on politics will be greatly tested. Are they as resolute as he thinks it is, or will corrupt bureaucrats be able to break him? Guess we’ll have to find out in the coming months.Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens in theaters on April 4, 2014.
