“Guardians Of The Galaxy” Trailer

Michael Lee, February 18, 2014

Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel Studios has just released the first trailer for James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy. Of all the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe released so far, this would have to be the most anticipated one. Based on a fairly unknown cast of characters, Guardians of the Galaxy features a slew of characters, alien and humans alike. The human based characters being Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista). And then there are the aliens, and when we say aliens we mean a gun-toting napalm thirsty raccoon named Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and a talking tree named Groot – who can say only one line: “I am Groot.”

Now for those who have been watching the 15 second teaser on a consistent basis for the day or have been itching to see more footage since Comic-Con and the D23 Expo, your wait is finally over. We’ve got the first trailer right here. And it practically lives up to what we’ve all been waiting for. Hit the jump to check it out.

The trailer debuted on tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel live.

Opening in theaters on August 1, Guardians of the Galaxy also stars Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benico Del Toro, Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, Michael Rooker, and Djimon Hounsou.

The movie teams five disparate personalities: Peter Quill (Pratt), aka Star-Lord, was taken from Earth as a 9-year-old, possesses a mysterious orb artifact and pilots the Milano, a muscle car of a spaceship. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is connected to Thanos, arguably the cosmos’ biggest baddie. Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) is a muscular dude you don’t want to upset. And then there are the aliens Rocket Raccoon and Groot (computer-generated characters voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, respectively), who are best pals and potentially the biggest things to happen to pop culture since Chewbacca.

Their stories converge in the space prison Kyln. After the characters break out, they venture to Knowhere (the severed head of a celestial being that serves as a hangout for aliens) and visit the weird menagerie of the Collector (Benicio Del Toro). They also have to avoid two villains, Ronan (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), who are in hot pursuit of Quill’s orb, which has the power to destroy the galaxy.
