The Buzz: “Star Wars: Episode VII”, “Spring Breakers”, “Jurassic World”, and More Michael Lee, May 12, 2014May 12, 2014 We are bringing The Buzz back. For those who may know what The Buzz is, it is a column that covers the top three or five news stories that may not be considered viral related. Today we got quite a few bits of news concerning which characters will appear in Star Wars: Episode VII, the Spring Breakers sequel, who will be composing the music for Jurassic World, Gotham, and Netflix’s DareDevil series. Hit the jump to read about it all.In an interview with ComicBook Resources via Slashfilm, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada talked a little bit about the upcoming DareDevil series that will appear on Netflix and how it will feel more like a 13 hour movie than a series:One of the advantages is really from the planning stage — obviously it’s much easier to work with a smaller number of episodes than it is with a larger number of episodes. We can sit there and look at 13 episodes and plan it out as a very large movie. It makes seeing the bigger picture a little bit easier… You can’t deny that there will be binge-viewing. You know that there are going to be some Marvel fans that when this show premieres, they are going to go on to Netflix, and they are going to sit there for 12 to 13-plus hours, and watch the entire thing all the way through. It’s going to happen. The Netflix model offers us the advantage of being able to construct the show in a manner that is very different than a weekly network TV show… With weekly TV, you sit there and go, “The audience may not want to wait two or three weeks to get this particular bit of information.” Whereas with Netflix, we might be able to hold onto a particular piece of information, because they may just watch it two hours later.Wedge Antilles actor Dennis Lawson says he won’t be appearing in Star Wars: Episode VII, which is a decision he made. IndieWire says that the people behind Star Wars: Episode VII have reached out to him, but he ultimately denied the offer to come back to reprise his role saying:“I’m not going to do that. They asked me but it just would have bored me.”On the other hand, Lando will appear in the new Star Wars animated show Star Wars Rebels, so I guess that means something.Fox has confirmed that Gotham, the Batman prequel series, will air on Mondays at 8pm. We also got a new updated synopsis of the series:Before there was Batman, there was GOTHAM. Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker? GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. Thanks to SuperheroHype for the heads up.The Wrap confirms that Academy Award winning composer Michael Giacchino will compose the music for Jurassic World. A nice choice to follow up to John Williams, who famously composed the music for Jurassic Park. Here’s a quote from Giacchino:My first stop-motion movies at 9-years-old involved stories where dinosaurs and men were trapped together on long-lost islands or far away planets. My first composing job was to write the score for the Steven Spielberg-produced video game based on the film ‘The Lost World,’ which was one of the earliest console video games to feature an original orchestral score. Having the chance to work on this new movie with the talented director Colin Trevorrow is an incredible opportunity to bring full circle the journey of dinosaurs and film that started in my backyard over 30 years ago.Amid all the weird naked photos of James Franco spreading across social media, the actor spoke out against Spring Breakers being made without the participation or even the consent of Harmony Korine. Using Instagram, the actor, producer, director, used this caption to describe how furious he feels about the Spring Breakers sequel:“ALIEN IN REHAB! And BTW F*** that SBers 2 BS, they’re doing it without HARMONY’s CONSENT. Sounds LAME AS A MUTHA!”That’s it for The Buzz. Did we forget anything? Was there bigger news to cover?
