‘Inside Out’ Trailer: Explaining Human Emotions With Pixar Animation

Disney and Pixar has released their first teaser trailer for Inside Out. Directed by Pete Docter (Up and Monsters Inc.) the film takes place in the mind of a young girl, Riley, where five emotions: Joy, Anger, Disgust, Sadness, and Fear, try to navigate her through life. We’ve seen small snippets of the film during our coverage over at D23, where we saw how these emotions interacted with each other, and how they try to understand relationships with other human beings.

Like most Pixar teasers, we get a montage of scenes from previous Pixar films. But for this film, each clip coincides with the different emotions that are characters in the film. It’s actually quite fun to walk down Pixar memory lane when watching the teaser. Hit the jump to check out the teaser trailer for Inside Out.

Inside Out will be Pixar’s first film they have had since 2013. The Good Dinosaur was originally scheduled for a May 2014 release before it was pushed back to its new November 2015. That just means we get the rare treat of having two Pixar films released in one year.

As aforementioned, the film will take place inside the mind of a young girl, whose life is uprooted when she is forced to move because her father has to relocate for his new job. Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith), and they will be the ones who will try to navigate her life as she tries to adapt to her new life in the big city of San Fransisco.

Directed by Pete Docter, with co-directed Ronnie del Carmen, and produced by Jonas Rivera, Inside Out features the voice talents of Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, and Phyllis Smith. Pixar will release the film on June 19th.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
