Fringe: FOX Observes Observer Week Iain Welford, November 16, 2009November 16, 2009 Whilst Fox may have dropped the ball when it came to programs like Dollhouse, which in my opinion would have made for great viral material, they have got around to creating something new for Fringe. The Observer will be featuring heavily in this week’s episode, and to mark the occasion, Fox has launched a new viral to raise some awareness of the episode. Fox has arranged for the Observer to turn up during NFL games, as well, the reality show “So You Think You Can Dance.” The eagle-eyed among you will spot them during the commercial breaks with some subliminal images. Finally, if you are walking around L.A, Atlanta, N.Y, Boston and Chicago you may well catch a glimpse of some real life observers who will be roaming the streets, trying to frighten the life out of small children. Well maybe not that last one, but you get the idea. Hercules over at Ain’t It Cool News also showed pictures like the one above of a press pack sent out to various websites (I’m sure ours is in the post…somewhere), with some nice historic pictures depicting scenes from the past as well as Observers watching over the events. It’s pretty cool attention to detail and gives the impression that they have been here a lot longer than you perhaps expected. It’s quite surprising to see this much effort going into one episode, but I hope it’s successful as I think Fringe has that real X-Files vibe that makes you want to find out more. We’ll keep our eyes pealed for new developments, and we hope you enjoy “observing” the next episode. Do you think Fox has caught onto the power of viral marketing? Will this make you tune into this weeks episode to see what Fringe is all about? Comments below or head over to our forums. Viral Marketing Fringe
