Batman 3 Character Rumors: Riddler Again

Normally any anonymous rumor (especially for big movies) is immediately disregarded and thrown to the rumor mill trash bin, but recent news can support the rumors this time for the potential sequel to The Dark Knight. Brent Sprecher, an editor from comicbookmovie.com, has several little tip-offs from a “Plot Outliner” at Warner Bros, who wished to remain anonymous. Check them out after the jump.



One of the rumors is that Commissioner Gordon will mention Metropolis and maybe Lex Luthor. This may seem laughable at first but recall how director Christopher Nolan is helping out in the next Superman movie. This isn’t something like Goyer giving a Blade cameo, this easter egg can happen after all. With Nolan working on both the Batman and Superman movies, there’s bound to be a little slip for fan-service.


The “Riddler being the main villain” rumor has been beaten to death since The Dark Knight came out. Now its been brought up again, but this time The Riddler may have more back up than before, and get a lot more dangerous.


The Dark Knight was able to handle three villains (just one of it’s many accomplishments), so the next one in line is bound to have at least the same amount or more. That being said, give a warm welcome to The Penguin, and a cold welcome to Dr. Fries (supposedly he doesn’t turn into Mr. Freeze yet). That’s only some of the villains to possibly make a cameo. Also, Gotham’s Dark Knight will have bigger problems than just trying to fight several villains at once, because the Riddler apparently is going to achieve something only Raz (and a random Wayne employee) has achieved: He’ll learn Batman’s identity. This spells out a whole lot of fun and makes The Riddler a lot more dangerous. With his love for another woman out of the picture, what better target than his power as a symbol now?

Speaking of women, we might get Barbara Gordon in the mix as well. Whether she’ll dawn the Batgirl suit and aid Batman with teamwork and seduction is unsure. The same goes for Dick Grayson and his appearance as the colorful Robin. Those two are rumored appear, but not yet as superheroes. In the end these are still rumors.


Well this is all great, but where is the but where are the rumors for any Joker appearance? Do you want him to join in on the fun for the next Batman film along with all the other cameos and references? Are you praying for a Blade interference from Goyer too? Well, maybe not that last one, but for everything else you can let us know in the comments.

  1. Well I actually have inside knowledge of this forthcoming Batman 3 film. I cannot say too much as it is still very early days however there is a lot of direction to take the next movie in and a lot of ground which is still yet to be covered.
    Christopher Nolan has not committed to anything yet, although this is not to say he will not be directing the forthcmoning Batman film. However there are several story outlines for Batman 3 which still need to be written up and developed.
    The main outline is that Arkham Asylum will feature predominantly in the next film.
    The focus will be on introducing The Riddler along with Black Mask and a certain character from the previous film ‘The Dark Knight’ however nothing is certain just yet but this is the main idea.
    There is no mention of Barbara Gordon nor Dick Grayson although the outline also introduces Ms Dr. Harleen Quinzel with whom I’m assuming most of you know becomes Harleyquinn.
    Yes you can choose not to believe me if you wish but like I said it is still early days and things could change however what I have said is currently the main focus according to what I know from a few weeks ago. I am not allowed to give any more details out. Hopefully, you will know by this summer, July at the latest.!

    he is directing the next Batman movie. the news came out over a week ago. you didn’t hear? he is moving ahead with the next Batman movie and has already given his ideas to his brother Jonathan and David Goyer so they can start the script.

  3. 1. Harley Quinn is the axis in this movie, as Joker was in TDK and Ra’s was in BB: everything eminates from her–she is carrying out Joker’s plans as she is HIS PSYCHIATRIST/LOVER.
    2. She will orchestrate and execute via other rogues who related to Arkham further anarchy as per Joker’s direction.
    3. Thus, the other villans are brought into the story as a result of Joker’s obsession with destroying Gotham. (Remember each of these stories have been an Englishman’s view of the U.S. war on terror…)

  5. I think Giovanni Ribisi would make a great Riddler; you need somene who can act, not just act silly. The Riddler should be someone who is brilliant and insane, but not as insane as The Joker. Ribisi has proven he can do eccentric characters who are also intellegent.

  6. I enjoy being smarter than everyone else so here’s the real batman rumors
    1) riddler has already been cast, nolan had this easter egg in mind when he filmed the dark knight,the guy coleman reese is the riddler-he knows batman’s identity and when the whole town tries to get him he goes insane and seeks revenge on batman/wayne. he knows that morgan freeman and bruce wayne know that he knows about his identity so he gets his own identity which is the riddlers. he goes by mr.reese ie (mysteries) the only mention of him being called the riddler is by……
    2) the joker is also in this movie not yet casted. he will be a patient in arkham and i think most people forget in these “realistic”batman movies a psych patient would not be allowed to wear makeup. The joker will wear no makeup and be scarred up, mr.reese will consult with him through dr harleen quinn(harley quinn)with notes only signed (?) which will eventually have the joker calling him the riddler. the joker will be a hannibal lector type character from his cell.
    3) Mr freeze will not appear in the movie but Dr.Fries will. He will be a scientist who works for wayne enterprises and is fired for trying experiments on animals to put them in a cryogenic state, he will be found crazy and sent to arkham.
    4) the end of this movie will be the riddler aka mr reeese trying to break the joker out of arkham but things go wrong and all the guards are killed and the entire island is quarantined leaving for a 4th batman film when he will be the only one on the island fighting off the crazies.

    He is fascinated with Gotham City because, like the prison, it is a place where fear rules: in this case, fear of Batman. Bane is convinced that the demonic bat that haunted his dreams since childhood is a representation of the Batman.
    Aware that a direct assault on Batman would be foolish, Bane destroys the walls of Arkham Asylum, allowing its deranged inmates (including the Joker, the Scarecrow, the Mad Hatter, the Ventriloquist, Firefly, Cavalier, and Victor Zsasz) to escape into Gotham City, where Batman spends three months rounding them up. Running himself to exhaustion, Batman returns to Wayne Manor, where Bane awaits him, having determined Batman’s secret identity. He fights Batman in the Batcave, defeats him and delivers the final blow: he breaks Batman’s back and leaves him paraplegic, thereby having been the only man to have “Broken the Bat”.
    While Bane establishes himself as ruler of Gotham’s criminal underworld, Bruce Wayne passes the mantle of Batman to Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael. As Batman, Jean-Paul grows increasingly violent, allowing the villain Abattoir to fall to his death. Jean-Paul also refuses to recognize Robin as his partner. Using a sophisticated combat suit in place of the traditional Batman uniform, he fights and defeats Bane at the end of the Knightfall arc, severing the tubes that pump the Venom into Bane’s bloodstream, causing severe withdrawal. Valley then gives the weakened Bane a vicious beating, leaving him alive but broken.
