X-Men Origins: Wolverine/District 9 Trailer Review David, May 1, 2009April 7, 2010 Gavin Hood’s film X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a perfect example of how comic book movies aren’t meant to be made like this. While Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber are strong in this film, the rest of the weak characters and some storyline plot holes , the first big summer movie is mediocre and disappointing. Read more after the jump. When anticipating this film, i remembered how Wolverine is one of my favorite Marvel characters of all time. His personality and story has really interested me as a child, reading the comics and buying action figures to play with. This movie has defeated my hopes of how Fox has really fucked up on each X-Men movie. The first two films were good but it started going downhill after that, along with the studio that’s producing them. The film starts out with the origins of Wolverine, seeing his way fight many wars like the American Civil War, World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War along his brother’s side, Victor Creed. One scene was really moving was Victor saving a girl form being raped by a commanding officer in Vietnam, which concluded their deaths but using regeneration abilities, they are still alive. The film then goes along by how Victor and James are introduced to Team X, led by William Stryker and other mutants. Then the problems start with this film. As Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber are strong acting performances, all the other characters are weak and flat. Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson (Deadpool) was decent but i expected more from him in this film. The worst character done was Gambit (played by Taylor Kitsch), they completely messed up the character and the actor’s performance didn’t help the situation. The action scenes in this movie were well done but the CGI still looked unfinished and mediocre at best. Also add in that ridiculous scene when Wolverine destroys the helicopter with his claws. Overall this film had the potential do be better but it ended up being disappointing with a capital D, with good action scenes, mediocre CGI, poor supporting cast and some plot delusions, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was the first summer bust for me. The box office numbers won’t reflect that because this is Wolverine, one of the best comic book characters of all time and popular with kids and adults alike. Too bad this film won’t live up to that prestige. PS: I saw an alternate ending scene during the credits. It was the scene with Weapon XI (Deadpool) hand reaching out of the rubble from the nuke complex, then……….well you have to see this for yourself. Overall MovieViral film rating: 6.5/10 DISTRICT 9 trailer reviewWell, the trailer MovieViral has been waiting for is now up at Apple.com and many film sites but i got to see this bad boy in the cinema. Let’s just say the trailer was excellent. That shot of the spaceship with MNU helicopters overhead was super awesome on the big screen. Also that the text “they are not human” gave me the chills. Also the alien was kinda scary when up close and blurred but overall i thought the trailer was well made but very unexpected. Tell that to people in my cinema. They were all “WTF?” and i smiled. For those people who saw it online only, i recommend watching this trailer in the cinema for sure. My rating: 9/10 Don’t forget to see Dan’s review and analysis of the District 9 trailer, scene by scene at our site. It’s very useful if you missed something! “The Dark Knight Rises” Review: A Legendary Ending to One of the Greatest Stories Ever Told July 20, 2012July 20, 2012In 2008, many people thought that Christopher Nolan had made the ultimate Batman movie. They thought that if he were to come back and do another, it wouldn’t be able to top The Dark Knight. What I’ve come to realize about this trilogy is, you can’t look at each film… Read More
Movie Review: “War Horse” December 23, 2011December 23, 2011It’s amazing that one horse’s journey can connect the lives of so many people without them knowing it. Steven Spielberg’s latest World War I epic, War Horse, based on the 1982 children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo that was recently adapted into a Tony Award-winning stage play earlier this year, doesn’t… Read More
Top 5 Reasons Why ‘The Wolverine: Unleashed Extended Edition’ Is The Best X-Men Film Of The Franchise November 20, 2013November 24, 2013The original cut of James Mangold‘s The Wolverine started out as a PG-13. For obvious reasons an R-rated film for a comic book character wouldn’t be accessible to younger audiences. Luckily, Mangold took the time to research the material, often referring back to the Chris Claremont and Frank MillerThe interpretation… Read More
