The Boondock Saints: Viral Made Simple Scott Caldwell, February 9, 2010February 9, 2010 Back in December, I wrote an article discussing the old school word of mouth viral for the film The Boondock Saints, and how it was relying strictly on how bad it’s fans wanted to see the first film in the theaters. No flashy gimmicks. No websites with secret passwords (although I have to admit, I would be a happy man if they went that route). Just flat out wanting those that made the film what it is today to get it back in theaters in a big way.Well, guess what. It worked. Using the latest and most simplest form of marketing, also known as “Demand It”, this film will now be shown in theaters to mark it’s 10th anniversary. And to me, the coolest part is, not only is it one night, but it’s one showing. Something about that just lets the fans know they earned it. No need to glam it up. In addition to the film, those attending will get to view the following (from the sponsor, NCM Fathom)The event will conclude with an exclusive interview with Troy, the cast members and others who were and are part of The Boondock Saints’ decade long journey. In addition to this ten year retrospective, there will be a sneak peek into the mobile games, comics, graphic novels and more that are currently in development. Finally, fans will be treated to special performance clips by The Dirges, Ty Stone and Taylor Duffy whose music is part of the upcoming soundtrack to Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.Seems like a pretty kick ass thank you from the director/writer, Troy Duffy. And, just as a friendly reminder, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is due on DVD and Blu-Ray on March 9th.But don’t take my word for it. Take it away Troy! Viral Marketing The Boondock Saints

The Lost Underground Art Project December 3, 2009We haven’t talked much about ABC’s LOST here on MovieViral, but they really pioneered the new wave of television viral marketing. Usually this has been done traditionally with interactive ARGs and a narrative, but in August, comedian Paul Scheer joined in on the fun in an unusual way. Scheer’s involvement… Read More
