GKNOVA6: “Classified Announcement SOMD” – New Code! Nick Butler, April 9, 2010April 10, 2010 We posted an article a little earlier about the second transmission that appeared on GKNOVA6.com. The new video included a code that has since been deciphered as “Classified Announcement Sold,” however a commenter pointed out in our article it may very well be “Classified Announcement SOMD.” We have that classified announcement after the break. The commenter, Justin, points out that we actually had the wrong answer to the code – off by one letter. Instead of “Sold” it’s “Somd”. That lead him to SOMD.com, a website for Southern Maryland (which is where the packages were sent from, coincidentally), basically used for local news, event planning and so on. The announcement was within this site. If you go to the site, click “Classifieds” > “Announcements” > “PSAs” > And then you’ll find it.The classified announcement reads:NOVA Posted by: Eve Reign on Friday, 9 April 2010, at 3:20 p.m.LWLXRMSYWN.GVVOXXPXBVOKTPXAVSFTMBK -AONTHLRDOF.DHXSWEJHCQSQFWTCZUBCAMLWLXRMSYWN.LRDOFUINENYMGNPBMSYWNHAM, -YFTTXEWPGJL.XVORLUINEASPTCZUBJWGILVFLWLXRBGG.CCGRNYMGNAEMOWXAAGMSYWNGVVO, -GCYSRZYKXR.YBCBGCYGVVOXDOKSWEJUINELWLXRMSYWN.XVORLCCGRAONTHLVFCWKYG, -FMFWCMXIMX.RTLHGPBWTMBKNSNTZBIMXXPXSQFW.HYORVPAKYHAMCAMMBKAONTH, MUZOWHYORV.CAMIGRAONTHLRDOFHYORVOAVBMYou can find me at the Cheeping River. I should point out I remember seeing it BEFORE we had this code, but thought nothing of it at the time (assumed it was a college website). My guess is that the site, SOMD, was contacted before had inquiring whether or not they (marketers) could use the site for a code. My best guess is they included a link to my article comparing what games this campaign may be for in that inquiry. Here’s the link that referred to MovieViral.com: http://help.somd.com/admin/main.php?action=view_ticket&id=55719-7009040544. Here’s how they submitted the help ticket. What If: Anti-Surrogates November 1, 2009January 23, 2010Last time on “What If” we had a look at how the the Surrogates viral could have been. The article explored the world prior to surrogates being a common sight and looked to explain our future and their path. We felt the film was lacking in explanation as to why… Read More
Exclusive Crazies Comic Book Review February 17, 2010October 18, 2011Most films that have viral campaigns do so because there is so much backstory worth exploring, yet they cannot waste time (and pacing) in the film to flesh it all out. The Crazies falls into that category, as the events leading up to the outbreak are glossed over in favor… Read More
Read Castle’s Twitter Story “The Case of the Fallen Angel” September 19, 2010October 18, 2011This year’s Comic-Con panel for ABC’s hit show Castle revealed a new Twitter narrative titled “The Case of the Fallen Angel”. The show has been using the Twitter account regularly for title character Richard Castle since the first season, and even had a similar narrative during last year’s summer break…. Read More
I bet Eve Reign is a place. If you look at the end of the listing, it says “You can find me at the Cheeping River. It’s near the Cheering Viper.” That sounds to me like a colloquial landmark reference. A locally famous billboard or a school mascot maybe?
That message was posted on April 9, 2010.April 9 is the 99th day of the year.Singularity involves a fictional element called E99.
Another possible point towards singularity, the color spectrum of the website fits with the trailers for the game, plus the buttons are the same color of Element 99, probably means nothing but w.e. thought id mention it
I found something that has to deal with school but not a mascot. Probably going to be some dumb info but here: http://www.jstor.org/pss/4230371
Bear with me guys, but I think it is important to understand the root of the cipher’s key. If it wasn’t brute forced, how would the key have been deduced? This could help in the next FOUR installments of the GKNOVA6 website.Anyone?
@Shaner: I’m with you, how exactly did this MrToasty come up with the key “sputnik” on this one. That’s where I was stuck myself….
Hmm, perhaps if the answer is right in front of us, this could be for Cipher Complex, a game being made by Edge of Reality. They have worked with Activision in the past. My 2 cents anyway. A video on IGN has an interview with them and it seems like it could be a contender.
Hey, I think I deciphered another thing. Meet me at the Cheeping River, it’s near the Cheering Viper. Look at it, cheeRing viPer. Cheering Viper is actually cheering river because you swap the v and the r in cheering and viper, then you turn “virer” around and it’s river. Cheering River.

Both words contain the word “cipher”, indicating that the line offers a clue to the cipher. Rearrange the phrase Cheering Viper and you end up with Vigner(e) Cipher. Using the keyword “sputnik” you can decrypt the code, revealing coordinates for the CIA HQ, NORAD, the White House, The Kremlin, and White Sands Missile Range.
@Anonymous: Yes, but how was the keyword “sputnik” discovered? Also, on the first channel at gknova6.com it no longer says “Hell is Purple” at the end of the transmission. Additionally, there’s something inaudible towards the end of the original recording that came in the envelope. I’ve used a couple audio manipulation programs and can’t seem to isolate it. The only thing I’m sufe of is that it’s a man’s voice but I can’t quite make the words out, much like the “You can see the whole spectrum” at the end of the second gknova transmission. It’s at 1:02…
As for the word Sputnik, I believe that he worked backwards knowing it was coordinates, so he plugged in the worded “three” – he explained it a while back in the comments, I think.
To follow up on the “inaudible” words spoken on the original sound byte that came in the envelope, I don’t mean where the man says “Don’t believe everything you see”. There is something spoken at 1:02 well after that and I can’t seem to isolate it…..
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=696615MrToasty bruteforced the code. As Nick said he worked to find the word “THREE” since Maryland’s (and several US government facilities) coordinates are in the upper thirties . Once he was able to work it out, he determined that “sputnik” was the keyword.
