Everyone Agrees: Betty White Delivered on SNL Nick Butler, May 8, 2010November 24, 2010 Last night Betty White hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time in her long entertainment career. Why did she get to host now? Because of a Facebook with hundreds of thousands of members calling for the 88 year old to host SNL. NBC announced she would be the host of the Mother’s Day special, which aired last night. The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive – many calling it the best episode in years. More after the jump. The chatter online during and following the show was unanimous: Betty White delivered. Many people called it the best episode in years, other calling it the best episode ever. Personally, I think it’s the latter – but I’ve only been watching SNL for about 10 years. One thing is for sure, it was a memorable show. Here’s the chatter on the web:As the chart above shows, Twitter has exploded with tweets including the term “Betty White.” Here’s what some of those tweets said: @GLfangirl20: Best SNL in a long long time it might be my favorite episode love Betty White. @Cynthia_Rose: Betty White killed it on SNL! I thought this was just a fantastic show!! Betty White showed her years of experience in comedy and to still be current well that is the cat’s meow!! Great Show!!
Completely agree. Betty really delivered, and overcame the hype- a rarity. Last night’s SNL will stay on my DVR for a looong time.Single criticism was no Rachel Dratch=[ every other guest female had a significant sketch or part.
Best episode EVER. Period. She is the best, and as jay-z said forever young. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Betty White
Damn straight she was awesome. Best, hilarious SNL I’ve seen in a loooong time. She was epic; Betty White rocked NYC from start to finish. Mad props on her great performance and for SNL for doing something RIGHT for a change. 😉SHOUT OUT TO BETTY FROM JERSEY! KEEP ON KEEPIN’ IT REAL! \m/–Bowz in NJ

YOU ARE AN INCREDIBLE ACTRESS,COMEDIAN AND ‘OUR IDOL’ THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND KRISTEN AND KAREN BEST SNL EVER !!!! IT IS ABOUT TIME !!! THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO REALIZE HOW PRECIOUS OUR ELDERS ARE TO US, YOU ARE AN ICON!! LOVE TO YOU BETTY WHITE YOU MAKE US WOMEN PROUD!!!
Hadn’t watched SNL for years, but I made sure I tuned in to watch Betty White hosting. As I had hoped, she was in almost every sketch – and I loved it! I really needed those laughs. Thank you Betty for delivering.
Instant classic SNL. Finally, a whole episode that delivered laughs all the way through. It’s because of Betty White. We kept watching for more Betty, more Betty EVEN when Tina Fey came on. No, just give us more Betty! The Wizard of Ass, her yeasty muffin, her crotch massager, Happy Mother’s Day, M+#f*ckers … so many moments of sheer hilarity. She didn’t miss a beat or drop a line. Possibly the best SNL episode ever. One to watch again and again. These days, it’s good to really laugh!
Best SNL I’ve seen in years. Betty was up to the challenge and then some! Didn’t love her because she’s old or because she’s such a pro–loved her because SHE IS FUNNY! It’ll be a long, long while before SNL can top this one. I’m hoarse from laughing. Thank you, SNL, for a sweet and saucy treat!
I hope the corporate executives were following SNL tonight. If anyone thinks that the American viewing public doesn’t like well-written comedy or sketch shows, tonight they were proven WRONG! Following Twitter during those 90 minutes was amazing. The chatter was active, even MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart was providing active commentary.Tonight we got taken back to the days of good, old fashioned well-written television. Betty White hit it out of the park. And Jay-Z brought a new fan base to a dying show. The majority of actors and writers are struggling these days as they fall victim to Reality-TV and cheaply produced television. SNL with Betty White will go down as one of the best nights in comedic television history. There’s a thirst for entertainment on network television. Tonight it was quenched by Betty, tomorrow it’s back to drinking the sand with Kate plus 8.
I agree with all of the others….THE best SNL since I can’t remember when! Betty White is gifted and funny as she can be!
I’ve been watching this show since its inception in the mid 70’s. This is the hardest I’ve laughed at a show that didn’t have the original Not For Prime Time Players on it. Betty White & returning guests were a delight to watch…
Here is what USA Today said of Betty White’s brave and AWESOME SNL performance:Betty White’s SNL stint: Less than goldenhttp://www.usatoday.com/life/television/reviews/2010-05-09-betty-white-snl_N.htmWhat was this reviewer watching? It wasn’t the same show I saw! I feel sorry for Alec Baldwin having to follow that show next week, LOVE U BETTY!!!
