Counter Found on Super 8 Viral Website Dan Koelsch, August 9, 2010 The Super 8 viral campaign sure likes its second counters. The Scariest Thing I Ever Saw website has another counter, this time on its dedicated page. What is this counting from, and what does it mean? Here’s everything we know so far. The new page is ScariestThingIEverSaw.com/Time.php, found by Unfiction members. It is a single number counting UP in seconds. Thanks to Wolfram Alpha, I was able to figure out that it is counting from 8pm EST on December 31, 1969, and there are two explanations for this. One explanation is that it is not in-game. As FilmEdge explains on Unfiction:I wouldn’t be surprised if that ‘countup’ was simply the cycle “backstage” at the site which started with the countdown earlier. It could simply be counting how many cycles have run since zero hour as an automated function.I don’t see how to access the .php page you linked from the main STIES game page, so I doubt it’s part of the game — rather just server-side mechanics, that’s my guess. However, 1969 is right around the time Super 8 is supposed to take place, so it’s quite the coincidence. Also, some think that the counter should have been gone after the FileLisB4 countdown ended. What do you think? Is this in-game, or just a random find that means nothing? ARGs & Campaigns Viral Marketing Scariest Thing I Ever SawSuper 8
