Mark Millar To Bring Comic-Con Experience To London With “Kapow!” Dan Koelsch, November 29, 2010November 29, 2010 We have it pretty good here in The States when it comes to comic book conventions, especially in California. On the left coast we have both San Diego Comic-Con and WonderCon (in San Francisco). New York and other cities in the US also get great conventions, but what about across the pond? Scottish comic book writer Mark Millar plans to fill that void with a convention perfectly titled “Kapow!”. Get the details after the break. Kapow! Comic-Con will make it’s debut in London on April 9th and 10th of 2011. This is not affiliated with Comic-Con International (which hosts the two California Cons mentioned above), but with someone like Millar behind it, it definitely has some clout. Millar has written for both Marvel and DC, being best known probably for creating Wanted and Kick-Ass. Kapow! Comic Con Trailer from kapowcomiccon on Vimeo. The convention is scheduled to have a slew of comic book guests and legends, including Millar himself, and all autographs are free. Of course, the question of whether this could ever rival San Diego Comic-Con is moot, as San Diego is only a 2-3 hour drive from Hollywood, and we all know that the movies are what make SDCC so big. However, the comic book and movie industries are strong in the UK, so this has a lot of upside, and I can see it growing rapidly. Tickets for the whole Con are £25, which is pretty cheap even with it being 3 days shorter than SDCC. You can purchase tickets now, and there’s a contest where you could win an appearance in a future Kick-Ass comic. You may want to also purchase the VIP ticket for $175, as it includes all of the following:* Full Weekend Ticket * Guaranteed entrance to all panels * Entry to advanced screening of Mark Millar’s directorial debut Miracle Park * Entrance to VIP drinks where you can mingle with the headline guests * Exclusive goodie bag containing unique merchandise and the rare and highly sought after signed Kick-Ass Issue 1 (1 of 3 variants covers) For more details, go to KapowComicCon.com Source: io9 Conventions Events Comic-ConKapowMark Millar
