Green Lantern Teaming Up With Doritos For Interactive Campaign

Alex Gerage, May 9, 2011

Hot on the heels of our article about the discovery of a Green Lantern viral website comes the announcement of a major promotional campaign between the film and snack maker, Doritos. The “Anyone Can Be Chosen” campaign seems to be a major effort to build awareness of the blockbuster in the weeks leading up to its release. Although the campaign has yet to begin, we have some details regarding what is in it for you if you choose to participate. Hit the jump for more.

The following message was posted on the official Doritos website:

“We’re giving hundreds of free tickets away every day to Green Lantern. Get the exclusive digital comic and enter for a chance to appear as a Green Lantern in an upcoming comic book or as a character in an animated DVD. Check back soon.”

Clicking the link takes viewers to a viral site for the campaign called AnyoneCanBeChosen.com. There, visitors are provided the following message:

“Thank you for your interest in the promotion, but it hasn’t started yet. Please come back on 5/15/2011 after 12pm central time.”

While it is still unclear what this campaign will entail, it appears that it will be far more interactive than simply buying a bag of chips with a picture of Hal Jordan on it. Green Lantern has obviously had a rocky road to the big screen thanks to the complexity of its post-production. Still, completed visual effects or not, many believed that if there was to be a marketing push before its release, now was the time. It appears Warner Bros. agrees, and is ramping up their marketing efforts for the June 17th release. Check back for more as the viral unfolds.
