Trailers Weekly: G.I. Joe Retaliation, Rock of Ages, The Dictator, The Expendables 2, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Casa Mi De Padre Michael Lee, December 17, 2011December 17, 2011 Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. This week we saw trailers for G.I. Joe Retaliation, Rock of Ages, The Dictator, The Expendables 2, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and Casa Mi De Padre. Hit the jump to check them out. G.I. Joe: Retaliation Based on the trailer alone, we can expect the same popcorn-movie action that we saw in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. But for someone who has directed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, I got to say I am impressed. Some are saying that this could be better than the first. Of course that isn’t saying much since the bar was set so low.Rock of Ages Tom Cruise does it again with yet another role that seems out of character. This time he plays as the infamous Stacee Jaxx, a hard core rock icon who seems to have ruffled the feathers of conservative mothers. The film is an ensemble musical that stars Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Ackerman, Mary J. Blige, and Bryan Cranston. If you like the 80s, then you will like this movie. Rock of Ages is based on the musical of the same name. The Dictator The Dictator is yet another one of Sacha Baron Cohen’s character creations. Most of them being inept fools who are in a fish out of water situation. We had a hip-hop artist, a man from Kazakhstan, a fashion reporter, and now we have a dictator (who resembles Momammar Gadhafi). Unfortunately the new character isn’t as edgy or pushes the boundaries of comedy like Cohen’s previous incarnations. But this is the first trailer. Perhaps a second would will show what makes Cohen so hilarious. The Expendables 2 Two years ago we got the largest testostrone roll call for a movie in history. This year is pretty much the same. But we do have a little story behind it and come to know that Barney Ross is in debt. But it ain’t the financial kind. The Expendables 2 brings back the usual Expendables suspects plus adds Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris.Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance You aren’t experiencing deja vu, this is pretty much the same trailer as the first one, but with a little more back story. Unfortunately with some early bad reviews, the film itself could be a bomb. A lot of the locations look relatively cheap and it looks as though most of the film’s budget went into the CGI. We’ll have to see if what the early reviewers are saying are true. Other than that, it just looks like an average February popcorn flick.Casa Mi De Padre This is the kind of trailer where you have to see it to believe it. And believe me, the trailer for Will Ferrell’s entirely in Spanish movie is hilarious. It actually will remind you of the brand of comedy that fans of Ferrell are most familiar with. What did you think of this week’s trailers? Which was your favorite?
