YouTube Tuesday: Freddie Wong (a.k.a. freddiew) Dan Koelsch, April 10, 2012April 9, 2012 YouTube Tuesday is a new feature on MovieViral where we shine the spotlight on our favorite YouTube channels. Specifically, we want to showcase channels that are creating great content related to film and television on a regular basis. Last we started off with little-seen Glove and Boots, so this week we are going to get the juggernaut out of the way: Freddie Wong. freddiew is the 5th most subscribed channel on YouTube with over 3 million subscribers and almost 600 million total video views. Why is the channel so popular? As their channel page puts it, Freddie and his friend/business partner Brandon Laatsch are “Just some cool dudes making sweet vids with rad FX!” The duo and their small production team make videos that are less than 5 minutes long, but pack lots of (usually) testosterone-driven effects.Although they both graduated from USC’s film school, they are self-taught when it comes to visual effects. Freddie’s younger brother Jimmy also has a YouTube channel, which features his music. The two are co-founders of Overcrank Media, “a Los Angeles based media production company specializing in feature film and online video content” (per Jimmy Wong’s website). While there is a good chance you have already seen some of freddiew’s videos, they are definitely worth your time to check out if you haven’t. Below is the latest video, and you can see behind-the-scenes footage on their second channel.Follow the freddiew crew on their official website and Facebook, and follow the Twitter accounts for both Freddie and Brandon.
