The Buzz: Community, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and The Dark Knight Rises Dan Koelsch, May 25, 2012 The Buzz is a feature in which we round up the Top 3 most-buzzed-about movie/TV stories of the week (in chronological order). Why go through pages of blogs just to find out what everyone is talking about? We’ve got it all right here. 1) Dan Harmon Expelled From Community The news last week that NBC’s comedy Community would be renewed for a fourth season was soon tainted by the rumors and subsequent confirmation that showrunner Dan Harmon would not be returning. Community has such a specific voice that the fans (including myself) are worried that the show might lose its creative edge without Harmon. Recently, the spat between Harmon and castmember Chevy Chase made the news, and some believe this led to the firing, though there’s no sign that is the case. Harmon has become known for being notoriously open and frank with his viewpoints, and he wrote a blog post in response to his expulsion that is worth a read. The backlash against Sony (who produces the show and fired Harmon) is so bad that they had to give a memo to the cast about how to answer questions regarding the subject. [/Film]2) G.I. Joe: Retaliation Postponed by 9 MonthsSome surprising news this week as G.I. Joe: Retaliation got pushed back a full nine months from its original June 29 release to March 29, 2013. While there are many reasons to change a movie’s release, even by such a large amount, it is rare to see it happen so close to opening day (only 5 weeks away). The official explanation from Paramount is that they want to release the film in 3D, and this will give them enough time to do a quality conversion. However, we know now that reshoots are another reason (though they are supposedly geared towards the 3D change). Obviously, this is has caused some to speculate that the film isn’t testing well, so Paramount might be afraid to release it during this heavy summer schedule. [/Film]3) The Dark Knight Rises Gets New Posters and BannersWarner Bros. released a new poster for The Dark Knight Rises, which was immediately panned for looking like a bad photoshop of the original teaser poster and publicly released set photo of Batman. Whether it was intentional or just good fortunate, WB quickly released six new character posters and four new banners that looked a lot better. Check them all out below. Gijoe being postponed because of 3D is absolutely stupid. If the movie is good, it should be able to stand on its own two feet without post-converted 3D scenes.
