The Buzz: Man of Steel, Star Wars, Spider-Man, and More! Dan Koelsch, June 22, 2013 The Buzz is a feature in which we round up the Top 3 most-buzzed-about movie/TV stories of the week (in more-or-less chronological order). Why go through pages of blogs just to find out what everyone is talking about? We’ve got it all right here in The Buzz. 1) More “Man of Steel” NewsNow that Man of Steel is in theaters, the reviews, easter eggs, and speculation on future films come in full force. First of all, some high profile Hollywood celebrities gave their reviews, including Kevin Smith, Damon Lindelof, and James Franco. We know that Warner Bros. wants to do a Justice League movie and try to get a shared movie universe like Marvel, so are there any hints in Man of Steel to other DC characters? /Film points out six that are teased in the film. So, let the speculation begin on the fast-tracked Man of Steel sequel and future DC films. Also noteworthy is an early treatment for the Superman reboot that shows how different this film turned out to be.2) Star Wars News It’s been a while since we’ve talked about Star Wars on The Buzz, but this week had a few stories about the upcoming Episode VII that gained some traction. The biggest non-story making the rounds this week was that George Lucas had yet to talk to J.J. Abrams, who is directing the newest addition. That shouldn’t be surprising since they are still pretty early in pre-production, and Abrams has been busy finishing up and promoting Star Trek Into Darkness. In slightly more substantial news, Bleeding Cool got hold of a casting call for the movie, which TheForce.Net confirmed to be real. While it’s nothing too specific, it does seem to contradict the rumor that the Solo kids from the books would be the focus of the film.2) The Mess That Is “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is pretty deep into its production, having been filming for a few months now. However, we have gotten some interesting news that shakes up the film. First of all, Sony announced the dates for the 3rd and 4th films in the series, extending what most thought was going to be a trilogy. This may have lead the other big news this week that they are cutting Mary Jane Watson (Spider-Man’s yet-to-be-introduced ultimate love interest) from this film. Shailene Woodley had been playing what was in this film a small role, and it looks like director Marc Webb wants to save the character for the third installment. Considering how bloating the sequel already looks, this might be a good idea. Woodley will not be returning, so speculation has already run rampant about who will play MJ.
