In cinema, there is dedicated fan filmmaking, and there is what Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala have done. As 10 and 11 year olds in 1982, they decided to make a shot-for-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark. It took the pair 7 years to finish most of the film, only to find it lost, and eventually resurrected. Now, nearly 25 years later, they’re turning to Kickstarter to get their remake finished. Hit the jump for more on this.
If you’ve been lucky enough to catch Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation, you know that one scene is glaringly absent. The scene in question, the memorable ariplane fight where Indiana Jones goes up against a muscular Nazi mechanic leading to his gruesome demise. Given the costs to shoot that scene, they left it out, but now they’ve turned to Kickstarter for the funds to make it a reality.
Beyond finishing what’s widely considered the best fan film ever created, there will be be a documentary shot following these men as they seek to complete a dream. The goal is $125,000, but they are setting the Kickstarter goal at the lower level of $50,000. Currently the effort is close to $19,000 and climbing.
Here’s a look the Kickstarter video:
Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation was created by Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala as a remake of the original 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark. Expect to see the documentary later this year.
