Kevin Smith Biopic Could Happen If You Help Crowdfunding Project Michael Lee, February 19, 2014 We’ve seen how passionate and dedicated fans can really be when they are making films. But sometimes these fans need your help, and they head to crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo. Raiders of the Lost Ark adaptation directors Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala used Kickstarter to help fund the production of their final scene. As of now they are nearly half way there. But there are other fans who are just as passionate about other projects. Take Christopher Downie and Brett Murray for example. The two are in the midst of working on a biopic dedicated to Kevin Smith. Hit the jump to see what exactly they are working on and how you can help. The producers are using IndieGoGo to help fund their project. According them this has been a dream project to shoot a feature film biopic detailing the struggles a young Kevin Smith encountered while trying to figure out his place in the world. After a short spell at film school he came up with the idea of shooting a feature film in the very convenience store he worked in. Armed with limited resources, ill begotten credit cards and the dedication of long time friends Kevin risked everything to bring his unique vision to fruition. And here is a ringing endorsement from Kevin Smith himself.Since the producers want to work with a professional crew, the cost of making this biopic will be slightly costly. They are asking for $46,000. other expenditures include the post-production elements of ensuring that they have the funds to create a great soundtrack for the set, transporting our cast/crew where to where they need to be, and supporting our advertising campaign. The final categories of costumes, equipment, and location/sets is the smallest; they have a majority of the core items needed for the film, but extra money is required to make it feel as authentic as possible. As for all crowdsourcing projects, there are incentives for those who donate to the cause. These can range from DVD screeners, signed posters, a shout out during the credits, and more. Head to the official site for more information.
