Does This “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” TV Spot Give Away Too Much Kevin C, February 21, 2014February 21, 2014 More and more, movies are being marketed with clips that push boundaries. Often, trailers have to include huge scenes to gain popular appeal, but in doing so, may reveal too much about a major character or plot point. One such interesting reveal has been a recent TV spot for Captain America: The Winter Soldier that seemingly reveals a huge spoiler. Hit the jump to find out more.I should include the obligatory spoiler warnings before starting this; you probably don’t want to read on if you don’t want to know too much about Captain America: The Winter Soldier.First, check out this recent TV clip from Marvel:Around 10 seconds into this clip, we hear Steve Rogers say “Fury’s last words were not to trust anyone”, while the group of heroes stand around what appears to be Nick Fury in the hospital. Could this mean Nick Fury dies? Would Marvel really kill Nick Fury? Is this all just misdirection? In fact, one of the worst-kept secrets about the titular Winter Soldier is that he’s really Cap’s good friend Bucky Barnes. That fact hasn’t exactly been played up in recent trailer clips, but it remains something very easy to find out. This should have no trouble creating all the dramatic potential the film needs. What this amounts to, is a great marketing strategy for Marvel. Getting people to think Fury dies is a perfect misdirection from other possible plot points hinted (including the Alexander Pierce / Red Skull nonsense). In fact, Fury is unconscious in a hospital bed. It is reasonable to speak of the “last” conversation you had with him in this context before he goes on to make a full recovery. One of the first trailers for The Winter Soldier actually showed a beaten up Nick Fury on crutches. So, fear not, we’re probably not going to loose the leader of S.H.E.I.L.D. just yet.Captain America: The Winter Soldier – stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L.
