Ken and Barbie To Get Their Own “Toy Story” Short Film Dan Koelsch, December 20, 2010December 20, 2010 Right around the time that Toy Story 3 came out in theaters this summer, we found out that the end of the trilogy will not be the end of the characters we’ve all grown to love (or met for the first time and had love at first sight). Characters from the series would be featured in a short film to debut in front of Cars 2, which opens next summer, and in other shorts down the road. Now we know that the first short will be Barbie and Ken-centric. Disney animator Floyd Norman tweeted about seeing a short film titled “Hawaii” featuring the two famous dolls:Saw the Pixar “Hawaii” short. Cute.Ken and Barbie want to go to Hawaii. I don’t know what it’s gonna be attached to. Fun stuff, however. While Norman doesn’t know what the short will be attached to (he later even says he doesn’t know what’s in front of Cars 2), Lee Unkrich (via AceShowBiz) confirmed that the short film that precedes Cars 2 will indeed be from Toy Story. Our faithful readers may remember that the viral video campaign Disney Pixar pushed forward featured the new character of Ken heavily. First we had an interview with Ken (voiced by Batman himself, Michael Keaton) titled “Groovin’ With Ken“, then we got a “Ken’s Dating Tips” video series. These were all pretty hilarious, and I really enjoyed the romance and comedic chemistry between Ken and Barbie (voiced by Jodi Benson) in the actual film.
