“After Earth” Video Details How & Why We Left A Decaying Planet

Michael Lee, July 16, 2012July 16, 2012

Though Sony had a panel for Len Wiseman’s Total Recall, one film that was missing from their panel is M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth. Sure you may think that Shyamalan’s career has already past the flush stage and entered into the sewage system, but the guy is still making movies, and After Earth may be the only way for him to revive his career. If that is the case, this little video may hint at the socioeconomic issues that will plague us in the future and have a direct affect on the film. Hit the jump to see the video.

Despite some of the greatest achievements being made, political set backs forced the people of Earth to seek refuge in the stars. All of this is explained in the video below, which utilizes some of the most notable events using Facebook’s Timeline.

It’s not an entirely exciting video to get wrapped up in. This is more of an introduction video to those who have been following the production for After Earth. The video also hints at the importance of the Raige family, as they were the ones who commissioned the journey to space. The film’s official website, where the video is hosted, also revealed a teaser image (which you saw in the header above), which will probably serve as the logo for the film.

After Earth takes place one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth. Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.
