The Latest Viral News for Films and Beyond!

The Buzz: Drive, Jurassic Park 4, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and More!

Dan Koelsch, October 12, 2012

The Buzz is a feature in which we round up the Top 3 most-buzzed-about movie/TV stories of the week (in more-or-less chronological order). Why go through pages of blogs just to find out what everyone is talking about? We’ve got it all right here in The Buzz.

1) We Could See a “Drive” Spin-Off

The indie film Drive, starring Ryan Gosling, was quite the critical hit when it came out last year. As with most popular films, the question of whether or not there will be a sequel keeps popping up. Director Nicholas Winding Refn recently addressed that very question: “That is never going to happen. But the character of The Driver might return in another film. We’re playing with that idea. We’ll see what happens.” While this could mean something as big as a spin-off, it could just be a cameo. What do you think? Would you like to see Gosling back as The Driver in any capacity?

2) Concept Art for “Jurassic Park 4” Hits the Web

Steven Spielberg has been kicking around the idea for a fourth Jurassic Park movie for at least 10 years, and just this summer, there was news that Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver were working on a new script. Earlier this week, concept art from at least one planned version of the movie hit Reddit, and the Internet shook its head in unison. Apparently, there was at least one storyline that involved human-dinosaur hybrids that could shoot guns. It’s pretty far out there and doesn’t feel like a Jurassic Park movie at all. What do you think? Should we have humanoid dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park universe?

2) We Might Have Our Mary Jane For “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is coming out in 2014, so it’s no surprise that Sony is already working on casting, probably before the script is even written. This week we got reports that Peter Parker’s love interest Mary Jane Watson and best friend-turned enemy Harry Osborn would be reintroduced into the franchise. According to Variety, Shailene Woodley, probably best known for her role on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, is in talks to play Mary Jane. Also, Electro is rumored to be one of the villains the filmmakers will feature in the sequel. What do you think about Woodley as Mary Jane, and who would you cast as Harry Osborn?
