“Green Lantern” Introduces Interactive Sector Map and Street Recruiting Dan Koelsch, June 13, 2011June 13, 2011 Warner Bros. looks to be ramping up their marketing for the DC superhero film Green Lantern, which is set to be released in theaters this Friday. After the break, learn about an Interactive Sector Map that lets you search for Green Lanterns, as well as a contest that could get you an advance screening of the movie. The Green Lantern Interactive Sector Map shows how the area in space the Green Lantern Corps. protect is divided into sectors, with one Green Lantern per sector. There are 3,600 sectors, and you can actually become a Lantern and get your own by connecting with Facebook. Fans of Green Lantern should remember the concept of Space Sectors from the comic books series, and the numbers famously given to your favorite Lanterns are honored here. For instance, Hal Jordan’s profile shows him protecting Space Sector 2814. While the benefit for interacting with the site and getting a sector may seem minimal (other people will see your name if they find your sector, and you can see what sectors your Facebook friends have), this is a good way to introduce yourself to many of the key Green Lanterns you’ll see in the film.A more rewarding marketing scheme for Green Lantern followers comes from the official Facebook page. Cities around North America will have illuminated Green Lantern symbols, and if you find them, you can get prizes like local preview screenings, limited edition T-shirts, light-up “Green Lantern” rings, “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” Blu-ray combo packs and more. Clues are given out in various ways to the locations, and unfortunately we are a bit late on this, so some cities have already done their contest. There are a few more left, so check out the details here.Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds in the title role, opens in theaters on June 17th in 3D.
