“Prometheus” Viral Video: Peter Weyland’s TEDTalk from 2023 (Updated)

Caleb Hamilton, February 28, 2012December 28, 2012

This week it was revealed that Guy Pearce would be the link to the original Alien films, playing Peter Weyland (of Weyland-Yutani), an entrepreneur who owns The Prometheus. In a video released today by TED, you can see Peter delivering a keynote at TED2023, as envisioned by Ridley Scott. More after the break! (Now updated with video and information on a Weyland Corp. website that went live.)

During this speech, Peter Weyland discusses a controversial robotics advancement he intends to make by the end of 2023. However, this is not footage from the film, but instead something developed by Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof. Thanks to FirstShowing for the video!

Below is the official synopsis of the talk from the video page. You can also read more about Peter Weyland on the site as well.

Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade.

Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow.

UPDATE: Coinciding with this video, a website for Peter Weyland’s company, Weyland Corporation, has gone live. The site, Weyland Industries, serves a portal to the TEDTalk video. Weyland’s keynote address seems to coincide with the company’s 50th anniversary, which promises to offer a “…new round of investment soon.” More information on that is coming in the next few days. Until then, monitor the Twitter hashtag, #weylandinvenstorss.

Prometheus is in theaters June 8th!
