‘Gone Girl’ Marketing Makes Final Push With “River Of Secrets” Michael Lee, October 2, 2014 Fox has done a brilliant job with the marketing for Gone Girl. Starting off by using a viral marketing campaign to get fans to call the Find Amazing Amy Hotline, which was really just a voice recording of a person reading the first few pages of the book of the same name. Then releasing viral posters to help us get excited for trailers slowly revealing more evidence about Amy’s disappearance and questioned Nick’s innocence. Finally we got to hear some of the soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. With the film opening in theaters tomorrow, it will be interesting to see how well the marketing team did promoting this film. But they aren’t don’t yet. They still have one more piece of the marketing campaign to push. The latest promotion for Gone Girl is called “The River Of Secrets.”River of Secrets is an interactive environment where users can reveal their deepest and darkest secrets through either text or audio recordings anonymously. It’s actually quite creepy, but it is also a great way to spend some time hearing what people are willing to reveal on the internet. Hit the jump for more.Mashable was the first to write about the new interactive site, which was launched earlier today. The site opens with text slowly revealing the title of the site. It then poses the question: “What do you hide from the one you love?” The site then opens to a vast river, where users can answer this question through either a text or audio recording. Some of the texts are revealing, but it is even creeper to hear it from different people. We get answers ranging from “I love porn,” and “I love her but she doesn’t know it,” to people questioning their significant other’s affection like “does he love me,” or “I am loney.” Some of the users are actually taking this seriously, which makes it look like a cry for help, others not so much.Looking at the text scroll across the river into the sunset while that ominous music plays makes the experience that much more chilling.According to Mashable, the site uses the emerging webGL technology, and the river seen on the interactive site is actually the fictional river that Amy mentions in her diary, which is also the target area of the film’s search.Starring Ben Affleck, Rosemund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, and more, Gone Girl opens in theaters tomorrow, October 3.
