Viral Video: We Are The World 25 Dan Koelsch, February 13, 2010 In early 1985, a colossal group of stars came together for a charity song to help with the fight of AIDS in Africa. 25 years later, a new generation of musicians and filmmakers have come together to remake that song, this time to help Haiti. We discussed the viral support Haiti has gotten in the wake of the devastating earthquake, and now the Olympics are getting in on it. The original “We Are The World” was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, produced by Quincy Jones, and featured everyone from Bob Dylan to Dan Aykroyd singing. This time around, Lionel and Jones are back, and the group of singers is just as diverse. Check out the Paul Haggis-directed video below, which was featured during this year’s Olympics opening ceremonies (and has over a million views on YouTube after less than a day). Spot any interesting characters? I personally liked seeing Jeff Bridges and Vince Vaughn. You may notice they kept Michael’s part in the song as a tribute, but added both a rap and auto-tune section to modernize it a bit. What did you think of the song and video?
